Charlie Hunnam is set to star in a spinoff to Sons of Anarchy that he is co-developing – but how much do you know about him?

Sons of Anarchy, the gritty drama about a motorcycle gang, was much loved when it ran from 2008-2014, but now, more than a decade later, a spinoff is being developed – and it sounds wild.
FX has ordered Legends, which is described as a ‘meta thriller’, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It is being co-developed by and will star Charlie Hunnam, one of the original stars of the show.
It is reported the limited series will bring the original cast of Sons of Anarchy – many of whom were killed off over the years of the show – but this time they won’t be reprising their characters from the series, but fictionalised versions of themselves.
The official description of the show says that then the cast reunites at a fan convention after more than a decade, the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they faced in the show.
As well as Hunnam, other familiar faces will return including Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan and Theo Rossi. More names will be revealed soon.
But how much do you know about Charlie Hunnam? Here are some facts you might not know.
He was discovered in a sports shop
Charlie was out shopping on Christmas Eve in a branch of well-known UK sports store JD Sports when he was discovered.
He was messing around with his brother when he was spotted by a production manager on Newcastle-based long-running teen drama Byker Grove. The manager approached him and this led to Charlie being cast as Jason for three episodes.
At this time, Charlie did a bit of modelling work for Kangol, but decided it wasn’t for him.
He has a degree in performing arts
While Charlie did find success as an 18-year-old in Queer as Folk, he did also keep up with his education. He attended Cumbria College of Art and Design to study performing arts and graduated with a dual degree in film theory and film history, with a side in performing arts.
He is choosy about his roles
After Charlie found success in shows such as Queer as Folk and movies such as Nicholas Nickleby (2002) and Cold Mountain (2003), he said that he wasn’t going to take on just any role. He said: “I have 60 years to make the money, but the choices I make in the next five years are really going to define my career.”
He got married after dating for a few weeks
In 1999, Charlie was up for an audition for a role in teen melodrama Dawson’s Creek. While there, he met Katharine Towne, who was also auditioning. They hit is off and started dating and then, just three weeks later, they got married in Las Vegas. However, the marriage didn’t last – they divorced in 2002.
He was nearly Christian Grey
Charlie has had some high-profile roles over the years, but he had to pass on what could have been one of the biggest. He was cast as Christian Grey for the film adaptation of the then-huge novel series Fifty Shades of Grey, however, just three weeks before shooting was due to start, Charlie chose to drop out, for a mixture of personal reasons and his busy schedule shooting Sons of Anarchy. Jamie Dornan stepped in and made the role his own.
He enjoys organic farming
Today, Charlie lives with his long-term partner jewelry and costume designer Morgana McNelis on a ranch and California. There, they keep donkeys and chickens, and are said to farm organically.
