Notorious Fyre Festival organizer, Billy McFarland, officially announced Fyre Festival 2 back in February. He said the festival will be held in Mexico in late May/early June this year.

However, plans were changed, after the Isla Mujeres tourist board stated they “have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it”. They added, “for us, this is an event that does not exist.”

The location for the site was then thought to be Playa Del Carmen. However, officials for the Mexican city were quick to deny its involvement.

In a press release released by Quintana Roo’s government and translated by Rolling Stone,  it states “Neither this event nor any event with its name will occur in our city”.

“After looking over the information around the situation, we can confirm that there have been no registrations, planning or conditions to indicate that this will happen in our municipality.”

Fyre Festival 2 documents shared

The ever-determined McFarland, eager to convince festival-goers that his event was truly happening, took to Instagram both on his personal and Fyre Festival account. He shared photos of documentation related to the festival’s planning in Playa del Carmen and a timeline of events up until this point.

The post includes screenshots of artist invitation emails, as well as permits for tourism and special events. In the caption he wrote that the various documents will prove that he has been “working directly with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event.

McFarland added “All media reports suggesting our team has not been working with the government of PDC are simply inaccurate and based on misinformation. FYRE has operated as a good partner with PDC government and has followed the proper processes and procedures to lawfully host an event.”

The post has attracted the wrong kind of response, with fans relentlessly criticizing and reveling in the event’s poor organization.

@wybosf commented “Imagine getting permits for a festival weeks before it happens. As an events professional watching this unfold is hilarious and is really the only news I’m enjoying at the moment.”

@clarissacardenas_cq added “The fact you even have to post this to defend yourself while all media outlets report different is HILARIOUS. What about that disclaimer about not refunding tickets under any circumstances 🤣🤣🤣 the jokes write themselves”.

Fyre Festival  2 is advertised as a “three-day escape to the Mexican Caribbean where you’ll explore by day alongside your favourite talent and come together at night to celebrate with music”.

Brave fans with money to burn can opt for the PROMETHEUS GOD OF FYRE premium package, which will give eight people a 24/7 private chauffeur service, the choice of a 4-stateroom yacht or a  4-bedroom villa, on-stage access to the Water Stage, and much more.

Last year a former Fyre Festival investor Andy King warned of “a lot of red flags” over the festival reboot.

In an interview with the BBC, he claimed that he had recently met up with McFarland, and claimed that the disgraced businessman hadn’t “learned a lot in prison”.

“He’s shooting from the hip again. Billy has a gift. He’s got a lot of charisma. He knows how to pull people in. I’m just seeing a lot of red flags and a lot of red lights. And I feel bad. It saddens me.”
