- Ghost of Yotei will take place 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima
- Game will have a new, female protagonist exploring lands and facing new dangers
- The game will be released sometime in 2025

In a surprise announcement, it has been confirmed that there will be a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima released next year called Ghost of Yotei.
New protagonist
The announcement was made during Sony State of Play and developer Sucker Punch showed some footage of the game, including cinematics.
Ghost of Yotei will be significantly different to its predecessor, with a new setting and time – it will be set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima – as well as a new protagonist, Atsu.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager at Sucker Punch, outlined more about what we can expect in the game.
He started by saying that the developers wanted to maintain the core pillars established in Ghost of Tsushima – playing a wandering warrior in feudal Japan and having the freedom to explore the world at your own pace.
New lands to explore
Goldfarb confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will be set in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. It will be set in the lands surrounding Mount Yotei in Ezo, an area that is known as Hokkaido in present-day Japan. “In 1603, this area was outside the rule of Japan, and filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers,” Goldfarb wrote. “It’s a far cry from the organized samurai clans who lived in Tsushima, and it’s the setting for an original story we can’t wait to tell.”
He added that it is the first game Sucker Punch has built from the ground up for PS5, and they are seeking to make the world seem even more real. There will also be new game mechanics, gameplay improvements and new weapons.
