Two-time Oscar winner Hillary Swank is joining the cast of Yellowjackets for season three as a recurring guest star.

Mystery character

Deadline has confirmed that Swank is joining the cast of the Paramount+ with Showtime series, which is currently being filmed in Vancouver.

No details have been given about which character Swank will be playing yet, but it is understood that she will be joining mid-way through the season, with the option of her becoming a series regular if a fourth season is commissioned.

Swank joins an already impressive cast list for the series. Actors on the show include Christina Ricci – who was also recently seen in the Demi Lovato directed documentary Child Star – Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cyress, Lauren Ambrose and others.

Production of series three of Yellowjackets was delayed by the actors strike in Hollywood. The first two seasons were hits and garnered the show 10 Emmy nominations, including for Outstanding Drama Series.

Plane crash repercussions

The show follows the lives of a group of teenagers who are part of a girls’ high school soccer team who were involved in a plane crash in a remote area of Canada in 1996. The survivors of the crash are stranded in the wilderness for 19 months and the show follows their battle for survival – including being driven to cannibalism. It also focuses on the consequences of those events for the characters as adults in 2021 and how it continues to affect them many years later.

Season one of Yellowjackets will be available on Netflix from October 1. Season two episodes are on the series’ main home of Paramount+.
