Following the success of Inside Out 2, a spinoff series will debut on Disney+ in the first half on next year, according to a Pixar chief.

Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Dream Productions has been completed and will be out next spring, although he didn’t confirm an exact date.

Power of dreams

The show will focus on the power of dreams, Docter added. It will focus on Dream Production, which was seen in the first Inside Out movie – the part of Riley’s brain where her dreams are made. In the film, it is set up like a movie set – complete with a director, stars and costume changes.

“We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it’s pretty cool,” Docter added.

Wave of interest

The timing of the spinoff is opportune as it can ride the wave of interest in the franchise, which has been reinvigorated by the recent release of Inside Out 2. The film has already become the biggest grossing film of the year at the worldwide box office, despite having only been out for nine days.

Inside Out 2 takes us back into Riley’s headquarters where Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear are navigating Riley through life. But as she enters her teenage years, the emotions are joined by new arrivals, who turn their lives – and Riley’s – upside down. So far, the film has taken $748 million at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
