A trilogy for 10 Things I Hate About You is in the works, and fans of the original are not pleased. The classic 1999 romantic comedy stars Julia Stiles as the grumpy feminist Kat Stratford and Heath Ledger as the charming Australian bad boy Patrick.

Kat hates Patrick and thinks he’s arrogant. Joey Donner (Andrew Keegan) pays Patrick to ask Kat out so he can go out with her younger sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik). However, when Patrick and Kat begin to fall for each other, things go wrong when she finds out about the arrangement.

Instantly, the film became a cult classic thanks to Ledger’s charm and Kat’s heartbreaking poem when she says, “mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even a little bit, not at all”.

However, the director of the movie, Gil Junger, is planning a sequel and a trilogy to the movies. See the details on the trilogy here, and the internet’s reaction.

How do fans feel about a 10 Things I Hate About You trilogy?

Junger says that the three movies he is working on have titles. They are called: 10 Things I Hate About Dating, 10 Things I Hate About Marriage, and 10 Things I Hate About Kids. Junger said the direct sequel to the film is “definitely in the works as a feature film. We’re developing it right now.”

However, there is a promising development in the potential sequel; Junger would be open to having original characters return. Additionally, he does want to honor Ledger. Ledger passed away in 2008 at age 28 of an accidental drug overdose.

On Ledger, he said Honoring him is a beautiful idea, and the answer is now going to be yes. …He deserves to be loved.”

But how did the internet react to the trilogy idea?

Were people happy with the news?

Primarily, the internet was unhappy with the idea. Probably because the film is one of the beloved and nostalgic romantic comedies, people don’t want its memory tainted.

We don’t want it, the people say

“Ugh…what a disservice for Heath Ledger. No one can top him or the story,” said one user on X.

You can’t have a TTIHAY universe without Patrick Verona, can you?

Meanwhile, another user had a punny response, “10 Things I Hate About unnecessary sequels,” they said in a post.

Another user asked, “Reboots, new seasons, unnecessary live action remakes WHEN WILL IT END?”

“Counterpoint: don’t do it!” one user advised.

10 Things I Don’t Hate: This idea

However, some fans of the original were open to the idea.

“Honestly, I’m intrigued by these sequels,” commented one person.

“10 Things I Hate About You-Verse loading,” joked one fan.

Considering their display name says ‘I have so many questions,’ so do we.

“Well, they better be good, I guess,” said another fan, who seemed more optimistic about the idea.
