While there is a hefty list of established actors rumored to be up for 007, Norton’s name is one of them.

The precise figure of Norton’s estimated fortune is unknown.
Some report it as $6 million, while others say it is closer to $5 million.
The sum has also been reported as being $1 million.
What has James Norton earned in his acting career?
Unhelpfully, no information about Norton’s earnings from his acting career are available.
But the star has been on our screens since 2007 – so it’s fair to assume he’s made a fair bit of cash throughout his almost 20 year career.
Starring in small roles such as the movie An Education, and British TV shows Inspector George Gently, Doctor Who and Blandings, it was the BBC drama Happy Valley that shot Norton to stardom.
Far from his usual image, Norton played the villainous Tommy Lee Royce in all three seasons of the show – earning himself a BAFTA nomination for the role.
From there, he took on the lead part in ITV’s Grantchester for four seasons until 2019 – and as TV actors are paid per episode, it’s safe to assume that Norton would have earned a significant amount for the 21 episodes he appeared in.

In January 2025, it was announced that Norton’s four-part miniseries Playing Nice was ITVX’s most successful drama launch ever for the streaming service.

The actor has also started his own production company.
Alongside friend Kitty Kaletsky, Norton set up Rabbit Track Pictures in 2019.
The pair produced the previously mentioned Playing Nice, as well as 2022 Netflix movie Rogue Agent – which also starred former Bond girl Gemma Arterton – and the upcoming historical drama series, King and Conqueror, which will be available to view on CBS.
Other projects in the pipeline are an adaptation of the novels Magpie by Elizabeth Day, and Suzanne Heywood’s Wavewalker. They are also planning to work with writers and directors including Jack Thorne, Aoife McArdle, Sally Wainwright – who wrote Norton’s best-known role in Happy Valley.

Away from showbiz, Norton is a brand ambassador and creative collaborator for British heritage brand, Belstaff.
