The Superman trailer has finally arrived, giving fans their first proper look at David Corenswet’s Man of Steel in James Gunn’s new DC reboot.
However, it’s Krypto – Superman’s Kryptonian super-pooch – who steals the show, appearing to save our brand new Kal El during his most vulnerable moment.

Elsewhere, we get snippets of director James Gunn’s newly revamped DC universe, something he’s currently overseeing with his producing partner Peter Safran. There are glimpses of Daily Planet’s top reporter Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, and some sinister snippets of Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor too.

We also catch brief shots of new DC heroes, including Nathan Fillon’s Green Lantern Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific.
Each set the scene for the wider world-building that Gunn and Safran are currently creating with a new slate of DC projects.

Tonally, the new Superman trailer also gives us a taste of what kind of universe his DC takes place in. Visually, Gunn appears to have used many saturated tones, with a style that clearly leans into colorful, comic book aesthetics.
Whether or not this continues throughout the other DC projects Gunn and Safran currently have in development remains to be seen.
What has James Gunn said about Krypto in the Superman trailer?
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Superman’s dog Krypto.
Gunn shared a fun picture of this Kryptonian dog and his Kryptonian owner on Instagram in October 2024.
“Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer,” explained Gunn in the caption, detailing how Superman’s dog was inspired by his own.
“Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop,” continued Gunn.

“It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life.
In the same caption, Gunn hinted that Krypto is a “not-so-good-good-boy.”
They’re all good boys, in our book.
When is James Gunn’s Superman released?

Gunn’s long-awaited Superman movie is set for a theatrical release on 11 July 2025.
According to the film’s synopsis, the movie will blend “action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
Corenswet takes over the Superman role from Henry Cavill who played Krypton’s last son for Zach Snyder in his DC Extended Universe. This included the stand alone movie Man of Steel and two Justice League feature films.
Despite appearing briefly in an end-credits sequence in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, it was confirmed that he would not be returning to the role in November 2022.
