- Cult cartoon set for live-action treatment
- Original cartoon series just been recommissioned for eighth season
- French-produced series has been exported around the world since debut in 2001

Cult French cartoon Totally Spies is set to get the live-action treatment, with a series in development at Amazon, with a Hollywood heavyweight on board as executive producer.
The live-action series will be along the same lines as the long-running cartoon series, focusing on the lives of Clover, Alex and Sam as they juggle being international spies and saving the world on a regular basis with being first-year college students.
Early stage
Will Ferrell is on board as an executive producer for the series, which will be a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Banijay Kids & Family. Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor are also executive producing under the banner of Gloria Sanchez Productions. However, the series is at quite an early stage of development as no writer or actors have yet been attached to the project.
Totally Spies has become a cult hit across the world since it first debuted in France in 2001. Since then, nearly 200 episodes have aired over seven seasons, as well as spawning a prequel film and spinoff series.
Record audiences
The seventh season recently ran on French TV – to record audiences, according to Philippe Bony, president of French TV channel Gulli – and is set to hit Cartoon Network in the US later this year. This seventh season came after an 11-year hiatus and featured numerous updates including a new HQ and upgraded spy suits for the team.
An eighth season has also been recently commissioned, showing appetite for the original show is not diminishing.
