Madison Beer has reflected on her long-held friendship with Justin Bieber.
Beer and Bieber have known each other since they were teenagers first getting their starts in the music industry. However, while Bieber very quickly shot to fame, Beer took longer to have her moment.
Bieber discovered Beer when she shared a cover of Etta James’ At Last to social media at just 12 years old. His then-manager Scooter Braun then took her on, but while neither of them work with Braun anymore, they’re still very close friends.
“I love him and Hailey (Bieber) very much. I was with them recently and we were like, ‘How special that we’ve known each other for so long,'” Beer told Cosmopolitan. “I’ve known Hailey since I was 10, and I’ve known Justin since I was 12. We’re still in each other’s lives and now they’re married with a baby.”
Beer also acknowledged that they share the experience of having to navigate such a tough industry while being incredibly young.
“Justin was also only a teenager when I got signed — he hadn’t even experienced his adult life yet,” said Beer. “He’s been through so much, too.”
Beer and Bieber’s experiences with Scooter Braun
Both artists were under Braun’s management but neither are still working with him. Beer’s team dropped her when she was 16, blaming it on her career not picking up enough momentum.
She recalled being told she was “going to be the female Justin Bieber, give it a year” but then was “dropped on (her) head.”
“Literally the same day my manager dropped me, my lawyer dropped me, and my label dropped me. Everything in my life went away within 12 hours,” she said. “I was 16 and my label was like, ‘Good luck.’ And I’m like, ‘You guys just stole years of my childhood that I’ll never get back.'”

“I can’t go to college because I’ve been homeschooled,” she continued. “I have a high school degree and nothing else because of my career. My whole family uprooted and moved to Los Angeles with no connections. I have no friends. Are you guys kidding me?”
“I felt like I was a dollar sign to them and when I didn’t bring in enough money, they didn’t care about me anymore,” Beer said. “Maybe they shouldn’t have signed a 12-year-old without thinking of the consequences of what that was going to do.”
What happened with Bieber and Scooter Braun?
Braun managed Bieber for 15 years, discovering him through YouTube. They parted ways in 2023, prompting rumours that their relationship had soured.

He later retired from management after many of his A-list clients, among them Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas and Carly Rae Jepsen, left his roster.
Notably, Bieber unfollowed Braun on Instagram earlier this year.
