- Film about the iconic singer’s life was shelved in early 2023
- But Instagram posts by Madonna suggest the film is now in the works again
- Julia Garner is still on board to portray the iconic singer on screen
Nearly 18 months after the proposed biopic of Madonna was canned, it seems the project is back on, according to recent Instagram posts.
The Queen of Pop had been working on a movie about her life and career for some time but shelved the project in January 2023.
Back at the typewriter
But now Madonna is working again on a draft script for the film, which has the title of ‘Who’s That Girl’ – a reference to the 1987 movie and song of the same name.
In an Instagram post, Madonna posted to her 19.7 million followers a series of pictures of herself sat at an old-fashioned typewriter with a script being worked on, with the caption “I need A-lot of Bandz to make this……. OKAY (story of my life)”
A Madonna biopic – to be written and directed by the 65-year-old star – was first announced in 2020 and is thought to focus on her early years, culminating in the 1990 Blonde Ambition tour. Then, the film got as far as casting Julia Garner in the lead role and having Diablo Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson on board to help with the screenplay. But it was put on indefinite hold in 2023.
Celebrate
Since then, Madonna undertook the ‘Celebration Tour’ that showcased her 40-year career in the music business, but now that has finished, it appears she is ready to go back to the movie.
It has been reported by Deadline that Garner is still set to play Madonna and that the two have kept in touch over the past 18 months.
