Happy Meal toys from McDonald’s bring back warm and fuzzy memories for many grown-ups – and now they have the chance to relive a little of their childhood with a new range from the fast food chain.
Celebration cups
McDonald’s is launching its Collector’s Meal on August 13, which comes with a free keepsake cup. There are six in the range and each one features images from some of the most popular Happy Meal toy ranges from across the decades.
The cups available are: Barbie and Hot Wheels; Beanie Babies; Coca-Cola – featuring the iconic polar bears – Hello Kitty and Peanuts; Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions and some former McDonald’s characters, such as Grimace and Funny Fry Friends.
The Collector’s Meal itself has several options, including a Sausage McMuffin with Egg sandwich, Hash Brown and Hot Coffee at breakfast time or during the rest of the day there is the choice of 10-piece Chicken McNuggets or a Bic Mac with fries and a soft drink.
Hand-held memory
“There’s an undeniable thrill when you snag that one elusive McDonald’s collectible or the final piece to complete your collection,” said Morgan Flatley, global chief marketing officer and head of new business ventures at McDonald’s. “We’re bringing back some of our most-loved keepsakes with a twist, giving fans a memory they can hold in their hands.
“These new collectible cups commemorate some of our most unforgettable designs and global collaborations over the years, allowing longtime fans to relive treasured moments and helping a new generation make their own lasting memories.”
Happy Meals have been part of McDonald’s for 45 years – having been rolled out nationally in the US in 1979, after earlier successful trials. Some of the toys from over the years have become collector’s items and can go for large sums on auction sites.
