- Michelle Obama isn’t going to Trump’s inauguration
- Her husband, President Barack Obama, will be there on 20 January
- The former First Lady didn’t attend President Jimmy Carter’s funeral

Michelle Obama is skipping Donald Trump‘s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
The former First Lady will not be sat next to her husband, President Barack Obama, on 20 January.
A spokesperson for Michelle confirmed the news in a statement shared by various outlets.
“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” they said.
Michelle was one of the leading lights who threw her campaigning weight behind Kamala Harris.
She joined many famous faces like Taylor Swift, Jane Fonda and Eva Longoria in endorsing the outgoing Vice President in her attempt to hold on to the White House. However, the Democratic nominee was roundly defeated in November’s election in both the popular vote and electoral college.
Who else is attending Donald Trump’s inauguration?
All the living past presidents are planning to attend presidential inaugurations.
Bill and Hilary Clinton are confirmed attendees of Monday’s ceremony, according to AP. They will sit alongside President George W Bush and his wife, Laura.
This is a typical feature of the swearing-in ceremony.
On the more star-studded side, country singer Carrie Underwood has signed on the dotted line to sing America The Beautiful.
The Village People will sing YCMA, which is notably a song beloved by Trump, at one of the inauguration balls despite knowing it might upset their more liberal fanbase.
The group wrote on Facebook, “We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics.”
“Our song YMCA is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”
