- Fan was caught on camera holding up the sign and a onesie
- The Brewers won game two of their Wildcard series against the Mets 5-3
- ESPN’s announcers were less than impressed with the fan and his sign
A Milwaukee Brewers fan has sprung to national attention after being caught in the crowd with a pretty extraordinary sign during the Brew Crew’s game two Wildcard series victory over the New York Mets, last night (October 3rd).
The man in question was holding a sign which read, “1st Baby Due today. Am I having a boy/a girl/ a playoff win” with the playoff option ticked, followed by a message reading, “P.S. Thanks, honey”. The Brewers fan was also clutching a baby’s onesie in his other hand.
While the fan in question seemed to be having the time of his life, watching his Brewers tie their series with the Mets 1-1, the ESPN announcers were less than impressed with the apparent father-to-be’s antics.
Boog Sciambi and Doug Granville were quick to pitch some shade the way of the fan with Sciambi saying, “Wow, that’s love right there. I’m assuming he’s going to get a phone call if necessary and will bolt out of here.” Granville, meanwhile, questioned “Is there a hospital in the stadium?” before adding, “imagine being born at American Family Field”, although both appeared to be less than enthused with the stunt from the tones of their respective voices.
The irony of the fan pulling the stunt at American Family Field is pretty spectacular too.
Despite trailing at three different points in the game, first 1-0 then 3-1 and finally 3-2, the Brewers valiantly fought back and took a 5–3 lead in the bottom of the eighth.
Twenty-year-old rookie Jackson Chourio crushed two opposite-field home runs while outfielder Garrett Mitchell nailed a two-run dinger in the penultimate inning to give the Brewers the lead.
At the time of writing the Brewers and Mets are currently playing out the deciding third game of their Wildcard series to see who advances to the National League Division Series to play the Philadelphia Phillies. Victory there would see either the Brewers, Mets or Phillies take on one of the LA Dodgers or San Diego Padres in the Championship Series. Then just the small matter of the World Series.
Will this Milwaukee fan be back at American Family Field should his beloved Brewers find themselves in the Series, though?
