Police in Slovenia are investigating the case of a missing Melania Trump statue. The US First Lady has a statue located in Sevnica, her hometown, where she was born.

The investigation comes after the statue was sawed off from the ankles and taken from its location, according to local media. Back in September 2020, the bronze statue was unveiled in the town during Donald Trump‘s first term as president. He assumed his second term in January 2025.

A police spokesperson named Alenka Drenik Rangus said on 16 May that they were told of the theft on 13 May. Since then, police have been investigating the theft and trying to find the person responsible.

This is not the first case of vandalism when it comes to a statue of the First Lady. Before the bronze statue was unveiled, a wooden statue of Melania was set on fire.

Subsequently, in 2020, the bronze statue replaced it.

Weirdly, the missing Melania Trump statue does not look like The First Lady. However, the first one did.

The artist, Brad Downey, said he is saddened to hear that the statue is gone.

“My feeling is that it has something to do with the new election [of Donald Trump], but who knows, right?” he told AFP.

After the original arson incident, Downey replaced the statue with the bronze one. He did not make the first one, as local artist Aleš Župevc carved it from a chainsaw.

However, he did not replace it because it was more durable; he did it to ensure the statue was “anti-propaganda” and had no political affiliation or resemblance to Melania.

In contrast, the original statue featured The First Lady wearing a blue dress and heels and was made to resemble her.

At the time of writing, police have not identified a suspect.

How did the internet react?

Many internet users laughed at the missing Melania Trump statue.

On X, one user sarcastically said, “Uh oh. Notify the Secret Service, right?”

Honestly, if the Trumps wanted to, they could…

Also, one user chose to make light of the situation, is one user who posted a photo of Wally from the Where’s Wally book series. Their caption read, “Where’s Melania,” with a hashtag.

Ok, that one is funny.

“Wait, WHAT? That’s some wild mystery stuff,” said one user.

However, another user speculated the First Lady knew about it.

Not funny, said other users

Meanwhile, other users did not find the theft funny.

A fan account for The First Lady said, “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same people who burned it down a few years ago (in 2020)”.

In further comments, the fan account also called the people who did it “stupid”.

Responding to the fan account, one user said, “Trump will not rest till it is found. We know Trump”.

Regardless, whoever did it is going to be in serious trouble when they’re caught.
