- A mom installed a home phone to help teach her children to talk
- After noticing her children could not hold a phone conversation, they installed one
- The home phone is internet-enabled and was used to help the children talk to their grandparents

Instead of letting her children become iPad babies, one mom installed a home phone to help her children communicate. The home phone or landline, as we Gen-Z and millennials knew it, used to be the prime form of communication before cell phones were available.
Now you don’t even need a phone to communicate, as you can talk to your friends on apps on your laptop or tablet, and on your phone. It is more common than ever that people can’t hold a phone conversation, as more people seem to be scared of phone calls. Consequently, many parents are finding their children unable to communicate.

This was exactly what Oregon mother-of-two Brittney Mast discovered, which led her to install the home phone.
Read on for the story!
Why did Brittney Mast install a home phone?
In March, Mast posted a video on her Instagram explaining why she and her husband decided to use the home phone.
Her caption began, “The new novelty in our house? Our home phone 😅☎️”.
She continued, explaining the four reasons why the phone was necessary.
One, they decided that a phone was “not an option” for her children until they were much older. Secondly, this decision is supported by the fact that when they are older, the children need to have a phone while home alone, so why would they need a cellphone if a phone is in the house?
Thirdly, she and her husband saw that their children “don’t know how to hold a conversation on the phone” because they are used to FaceTime. Therefore, they compromised and decided to purchase the home phone so the children could contact their family “without relying on [their] cell phones”.
Compromising, they chose a home phone with internet to opt out of the difficult landline-installing experience.
On their children’s opinions of the home phone, Mast said in her Instagram caption that they think it’s “awesome” and love to call their grandparents “all on their own”.
How sweet.
She also revealed how she and her husband have incorporated old technology into the children’s daily lives.
Parents praised Mast
In the comments of her post, Mast was praised by parents.
“Yes! We got one when our kids could stay home alone. My girls are 14 and still don’t have cell phones. We will get them flip phones next year when they start high school. 👏👏👏👏,” wrote one parent on Mast’s Instagram.

“Our kids call us from the Google Home, but I honestly love this!!” said one mom.

“We have one too. It’s been great!” said another parenting account.

Meanwhile, another called the idea “lowkey genius”.
