Monster season 3 is on its way, this time telling the harrowing tale of the Ed Gein story in Monster: The Original Monster.

Co-created by American Horror Story mastermind Ryan Murphy and writer Ian Brennan, this anthology drama series has proven hugely popular on Netflix. Its first outing dropped in 2022, with Murphy’s American Horror Story good luck charm Evan Peters starring as the blank-faced serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

The show was a huge hit. Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story became the streamer’s second most-watched English language show ever. Meanwhile, it won a BAFTA for Best International Programme, while Evans walked away with a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a limited series.

Audiences wanted more and so Murphy and Brenan delivered. Just last year, Netflix debuted Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menedez Story to equal critical acclaim. Starring Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in its respective leading roles, the pair played super-rich siblings who murdered their parents amid rumors of long-standing abuse.

The show got audiences talking. It even set the stage for a potential re-examination of their decades-old case while sparking discussions surrounding the siblings’ future.

No – a release date for Monster season 3 hasn’t been set just yet.

Production on the show began in November 2024. We’ll likely have to wait for filming on the show to wrap before we get any details about when we can find it on Netflix.

For reference, both of the show’s previous seasons debuted in late September which means we could potentially see Monster: The Original Monster hit Netflix at around the same time in late 2025.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for the streamer to confirm this release strategy.

As mentioned above, Sons of Anarchy star Hunnam will take the lead in Monster: The Original Monster, playing infamous serial killer Ed Gein. His casting appeared online in September 2024 with Netflix confirming the news a month later.

Hunnam will be joined by Rosanne star and Broadway mainstay Laurie Metcalf who will play Gein’s toxic mother Augusta Gein.

Together, they’ll be joined by Pirates of the Caribbean star Tom Hollander as iconic English horror director Alfred Hitchcock with British actress Olivia Williams playing the filmmaker’s wife Alma Reville.

As reported on The InSneider, Addison Rae and Suzanna Son were next to join the series in early February 2025.

Is there a trailer for Monster season 3?

Plot details on Monster season 3 are thin on the ground. All we know for sure is that it will focus on the life and crimes of Gein, a notorious American serial killer who was active during the late 1940s and into the 1950s.

During this time, Gein was believed to have committed multiple murders alongside illegally exhuming bodies from graves. Following his arrest in 1957, authorities found a number of body parts in his remote farmhouse in Plainfield, Wisconsin.

Police also found various household items made out of body parts, including a bin made of human skin and bowls made of skulls.

Gein had a complex relationship with his mother, whom he idolized. His life and crimes have served as an inspiration for various iconic horror movies. These include Norman Bates in Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of The Lambs.

The Psycho link will likely explain Hollander’s Hitchcock role.
