The holiday season is in full swing, and, as usual, Hollywood has come up with some great new titles to keep up cooped in the dark for a couple of hours.
If you’re looking for something to do in the holiday season, then a trip to the movies is always a treat. This is traditionally a time of year when the movie industry steps up its game and releases some big films to draw the crowds in, and 2026 is no exception.
Given that it is holiday season, there is an eclectic mix out this month, from blockbuster kids movies to horror and romantic comedy – so there is something for everyone. Here are the movies that we’re excited to see this month.
Super Troopers 3
After eight years, the Super Troopers are back for a third instalment of the franchise. This time out, Farva has a wildly over-the-top Indian engagement to Thorny’s sister, but it spirals into chaos, meaning that the Super Troopers must navigate Thorny’s schemes to break up the relationship. In addition, for the day job, they are trying to crack a new drug ring. Can they crack the case and save the wedding? Out August 7.
The End of Oak Street
This sci-fi thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor sees the life of a family turned upside down when a mysterious cosmic event – of course – uproots the suburban Oak Street and plants it into a new location that includes prehistoric creatures. Faced with such startling surroundings, the family must stick together if they are to survive. Lands on August 14.
Coyote Vs Acme
The development of this movie, a big screen take on the classic Road Runner cartoon, is well known. It started development in 2018, had a break for Covid, and live-action filming took place in 2022. But then Warner Bros shelved the feature in 2023 – for a tax write-off – but then reversed the decision and let the filmmakers seek other distributors. Now, it is finally here. The premise is that, after every product made by the Acme Corporation has backfired on Wile E. Coyote in his pursuit of Road Runner, a downtrodden attorney, Kevin Avery, takes on the Coyote in a lawsuit against Acme. As the case runs, the friendship between the two grows and they are determined to win the case – but to do so they have to go up against Acme’s intimidating lawyer.
Paw Patrol: The Dino MOvie
The juggernaut franchise for under-fives, Paw Patrol, gets yet another big screen outing this month, with the pups this time rescuing dinosaurs. The pups end up on a dinosaur island after a storm (as you do) where they meet up with Rex – who fans will know from the show/previous merchandising. As usual, mayor Humdinger is up to no good and triggers a volcano, providing the pups with their biggest rescue yet. Mckenna Grace stars as Skye. Perfect if you have small people you want to keep occupied for an afternoon. Out August 14.
