As the weather gets colder, it’s a great time to go back to the cinema – and there are some great movies out in October. Here are the ones we most want to see.
As autumn rolls on and the weather gets chillier, it’s a good time to seek the warmth of the cinema and kick back with a good movie for a couple of hours.
Continuing the strong run of great movies that have come out in 2026, there is plenty for viewers to enjoy this month, from comedy to psychological thrillers and, because it’s the month of Halloween, some horror too. Here are the movies that we can’t wait to see in October.
Digger
This satirical black comedy, in the vein of Don’t Look Up, stars Tom Cruise as ‘Digger’ Rockwell, an ageing, paunchy oil tycoon who is the most powerful man in the world, who sets out to prove he is the saviour of humanity – before the disaster he unleashed through irresponsible oil drilling in the Arctic destroys everything. The prostheses on Cruise are almost worth seeing the movie for on their own. Hits theaters on October 2.
Verity
This psychological thriller, an adaptation of the novel by Colleen Hoover, stars Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. The action focuses on Lowen Ashleigh, a young writer who secures a job to be a ghostwriter for famous author Verity Ashworth. But Lowen’s assignment quickly turns dark when she discovers autobiographical notes from Verity and, as she finds out secrets about Verity’s husband, the lines between fact and fiction become blurred, and she struggles to separate manipulation from attraction and opportunity from obsession. In theaters on October 2.
The Social Reckoning
The sequel to 2010’s The Social Network dramatizes the 2021 leak at Facebook by whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horowitz that exposed some of the most guarded secrets of the hugely successful social media network. Aaron Sorkin has written and directed this one – he wrote the first – and stars include Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison
Street Fighter
The much-loved side-scrolling beat-em-up video game series gets yet another live-action movie version. As with the 90s, whatever Mortal Kombat can do, so can Street Fighter. With a pretty stellar cast, including Joe Anoa’I – better known as wrestler Roman Reigns, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Cody Rhodes and Jason Momoa (again in a movie version of a video game), this action comedy should do well. The plot sees estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken Masters recruited by Chun Li to join a martial arts tournament and confront the dastardly M Bison. Drops in theaters on October 16.
Clayface
The third film in the nascent DC Universe takes things down a darker road than your average comic-based movie. Clayface, written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen/Clayface, an actor whose face is disfigured, and turns to a scientist to restore his original face. But the treatment goes wrong and he suffers horrific side-effects that turn his body into clay – and Hagen descends into madness as a result. Watch – if you have a strong stomach – from October 23.
Klara and the Sun
With AI seemingly everywhere at the moment, the timing of this sci-fi movie seems apposite. The story, based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s 2021 novel, tells the story of Klara, a solar-powered AI friend designed to prevent loneliness, just wants to find the perfect home. She meets Josie, a sickly teenage girl who lives with her mother – and both are grieving a lost sibling/child. Klara, in her innocence, wants to help Josie and her family, but also solve the riddle of the sun. Arrives in cinemas on October 23.
