Warner Bros has finally confirmed when free-to-play fighter game MultiVersus will be re-released.

First Player Games, which developed MultiVersus and is owned by Warner Bros, has said the full game will return on May 28.

MultiVersus was first announced in November 2021 – having been rumoured for some time previously – and an early access beta was launched in July 2022. It then appeared online last year as an open beta and had 20 million players by September, gaining 10 million users from August alone, and topped the most played game chart on Steam for several weeks.

The game is notable for containing playable characters from multiple franchises, including DC superheroes, Looney Tunes, Adventure Time, Scooby Doo and more. It is a platform fighter, with the aim being to knock opponents beyond a stage boundary by inflicting enough damage on them. Various game options are available, including one-v-one, free for all and battles involving teams of two.

Some voice actors of the playable characters have reprised their roles to provide content for the game.

When First Player Games took the game down, the gaming community was up in arms. But at the time, it was promised that it would come back even better, with the learnings from the open beta taken into account, including new characters, stages and a player-versus-environment option.

More details on the release are expected soon, but it has been confirmed that MultiVersus will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store on PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PC. It will also use the Unreal Engine 5 – the open beta used Unreal Engine 4.

It is also thought that all players’ progress and earned and/or purchased content will be carried over to the new version of the game.
