The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer has officially blasted off, giving audiences our first real look at Marvel’s newest super-family.
Debuting on Tuesday 4 February, the studio’s newly-released teaser offered our first official footage of Marvel’s first superhero group. Despite only lasting just over a minute and a half, the studio managed to pack a lot in.

They also didn’t leave much to the imagination, placing Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm AKA The Thing front and centre as he comments on some cooking in what could be a sly nod to his hit show The Bear.

Elsewhere, we also saw Pedro Pascal’s stretchy Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s invisible Sue Storm and Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch in action, alongside a brief glimpse at Ralph Ineson’s villain Galactus.

Who is John Malkovich playing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
Malkovich only shows up in the trailer for a split-second, making a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance during the 1.20-minute mark.
As it stands, Marvel has kept any information on who he might be playing close to their chest. However, some have theorised that he could be playing one of the Fantastic Four’s oldest villains.
ComicBookMovie.com suggeted Malkovich could be bringing Ivan Kragoff AKA the Red Ghost to life. In Marvel lore, Kragoff was a Russian scientist who became obsessed with trying to replicate the methods that gave the Richards family their powers. Building his own ship, he manages to succeed in getting amped-up abilities, alongside three trained apes that he takes along for the ride.
While his monkey pals gain magnetism, shape-shifting and super strength abilities, Kragoff finds himself able to become ghostlike at will, hence the name the Red Ghost.
While Malkovich’s character certainly looks the part, it’s worth noting that this casting news has yet to be officially confirmed or denied by Marvel.
Who else is in The Fantastic Four: First Steps cast?
In addition to its main quartet, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will include appearances from Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer.
Paul Walter Hauser is also set to appear, with many believing he will play another villain known as Mole Man.
Despite the recent news that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU to play Reed Richards’ nemesis Victor Von Doom, it’s currently unclear whether he will appear in The Fantastic Four’s first cinematic outing.
