• More plot hints included in this trailer – including first look at the main antagonist
  • Trailer includes liberal swearing and violence
  • Deadpool will find Wolverine and ask him for help to save everything he cares about

“Hi, Peanut.” Yes, the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has dropped, and it doesn’t disappoint – giving the clearest hints yet at the plot of the movie, and that the move to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hasn’t diluted the profanity and violence that was a feature of the first two Deadpool films.

Warning: The trailer contains language that may offend and scenes of violence that may be unsuitable for younger viewers.

The scene opens with Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) drinking in a bar where he isn’t welcome. Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) appears, saying “I need you to come with me right now.”

We then cut to a snowy wasteland with Deadpool explaining that he is about to lose everything he has ever cared about. Wolverine responds that it isn’t his problem. Deadpool responds “just like it wasn’t when your world turned to ****?”

Another plot point is revealed as Deadpool pleads to Wolverine for help. “I don’t know anything about saving worlds,” he says. “But you do.”

“Trust me, kid, I’m no hero,” is the gruff reply.

“You were an X-Man. You were the X-Man,” says Deadpool.

That seems to work as we then cut to various fight scenes, with Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ playing over the top.

The trailer also gives an indication of why this is the first MCU film to be rated R in the US. Not only will there be swearing, but also violence – and lots of it, as there was in the previous Deadpool films.

Likewise, the in-jokes and fourth wall-breaking scenes are intact – with nothing safe, even MCU head honcho Kevin Fiege.

In the trailer we also have first sight of the main antagonist in the film, Cassandra Nova played by Emma Corrin. Cassandra Nova is a well-known Marvel villain, usually coming up against the X-Men, which is understandable as she is the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier – or Professor X. It was confirmed last month that she was the main villain.

Excitement is high for Deadpool vs Wolverine. Not only does the film mark the entry into the MCU of both characters, it also paves the way for the rest of the X-Men to join later. It is also the only MCU film to be released in 2024.

Deadpool v Wolverine hits cinemas on July 26.
