- New film will have global release in June 2026
- Travis Knight to direct but no casting has yet announced
- Film will focus on Prince Adam and his journey to become He-Man and defeat Skeletor

By the power of Grayskull! A new He-Man movie is set to hit theaters across the world on 5 June 2026.
Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films made the announcement and has confirmed that Travis Knight – who directed Bumblebee, among others – will be directing.
The screenplay is currently being rewritten by Chris Butler and Robbie Brenner from Mattel Films. No details of who will be cast in the leading roles have yet been confirmed.
Synopsis announced
However, there is a synopsis for the film, as reported by Variety, which starts with 10-year-old Prince Adam crashing to Earth in a spaceship and gets separated from his magical Power Sword – which is also the only link to his home on Eternia.
But, after spending the best part of 20 years tracking it down, Prince Adam is taken back across space to defend Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat him, Prince Adam must uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man.
Fan favorite franchise
He-Man has been a fan favorite franchise since he debuted as an action figure in 1982, which was swiftly followed by the iconic cartoon series – much beloved of meme-makers the world over – in 1983. A live action movie based on the franchise was released in 1987, with Dolph Lundgren in the title role and also starring a young Courtney Cox, but it was generally panned by critics and fans.
This new movie has had a protracted history. There have been talks about a live action film since 2007, off and on, and Netflix had been developing a movie – indeed, spending $30 million on the project – and got as far as casting Kyle Allen as Prince Adam/He-Man before pulling the plug.
Mattel Films is keen to cash in on its roster of children’s toys after the success last year of Barbie, the biggest grossing film of 2023.
