He’s one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars.

But Paul Mescal hasn’t forgotten his roots.

The actor, 28, took his family to the Irish premiere of his new movie Gladiator II on November 7.

But the Mescal clan weren’t the only guests of honor at the event.

Mescal’s mother Dearbhla was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma – a type of bone marrow cancer – in 2022, and revealed in June of this year that she is in remission from the disease.

And her son made a sweet gesture to celebrate the news – by inviting Dearbhla’s doctor to the premiere to thank him for looking after his mother.

In an interview, Dearbhla confirmed, “Paul actually invited my doctor to the premiere, so that was so lovely. It was so lovely to see him out of context. My body has accepted the treatment and is continuing to accept the treatment.”

She added of herself and her husband Paul Sr, “The two of us are very lucky, we’re retired and we’re in good health and that’s kind of unusual in your 50s, so I’m feeling very lucky and feeling very blessed.

“My three children are well and I don’t think any parent can ask for more than that, to be honest.”

‘Paul was overwhelmed – in a good way’

Dearbhla also revealed that the family were “very emotional” throughout the event.

“It was actually quite incredible and I heard Paul talking about being overwhelmed but in a good way,” she continued. “Sometimes things are just so huge for you that you just have to soak it all in, and we really, really did.

“To hear your child’s name being shouted and the fabulous music of The Gladiator behind it was pretty awe inspiring.”

Dearbhla added, “I got very emotional, I have to say, and he did as well as. It was one of those things where you’re sharing this big moment, kind of like a wedding, but there’s loads of cameras!”
