To the world of children’s TV now – Peppa Pig is gaining another sibling this autumn after Mummy Pig revealed that she is pregnant with her third piglet.

The hit animated show will be adding a new character to the Pig family in the autumn, joining the titular Peppa and her two-year-old brother George. The happy news was announced on Good Morning Britain.

Mummy Pig said: “Well, I’m excited to share that our family is getting even bigger because… we’re having another baby!” She then held up a picture of the scan, showing a piglet

The episode covering Mummy Pig revealing her pregnancy will be aired in the UK on March 30 – Mother’s Day in the UK. However, viewers won’t see the latest addition to the Pig family until the autumn when more new episodes arrive that will cover the birth.

Peppa Pig is excited

Mummy Pig added that Peppa and George already know about the baby. “Peppa knew something was going on, and she’s such as curious thing, we had to tell her before she popped.

“They’ve had the occasional wobble and worry but they’re mostly excited. Every day they ask me how big the baby is. When is it coming? Does it like dinosaurs and muddy puddles? It never stops!”

It has not been revealed yet whether the baby is a boy or a girl. There has also been no speculation on what their name might be. In general, in Peppa’s world, children have alliterative names – Danny Dog, Pedro Pony, Suzie Sheep etc. But the Pig family have broken this rule before with George (and their cousins, Chloe and Alexander) so nothing is off the table.

Delighting pre-schoolers

Peppa Pig has delighted pre-schoolers for more than two decades. The show began in the UK but has since become a worldwide phenomenon – it is shown in 180 territories – including a merchandising operation that is worth billions. Since the start of the show, Mummy Pig has been voiced by actress and comedian Morwenna Banks.

This is not the first time babies have been born in the show. Some years ago, Mummy Rabbit gave birth to twins, Robbie and Rosie. On that occasion, Peppa accompanied Mummy Rabbit, along with her friends, Rebecca and Richard, to the hospital.
