Microsoft has taken its new strategy of expanding Xbox-exclusive titles to other platforms to another level. During recent Xbox showcases, Microsoft has started showing PlayStation and Nintendo logos in trailers for the titles that will also be available on these platforms.

A Bold Move: Microsoft’s New Cross-Platform Strategy

This marks a major shift for Microsoft as, on previous events, it would only bring its own platform under the spotlight. In the past, Microsoft hasn’t mentioned the PlayStation versions of games like Doom: The Dark Ages, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and more.

However, this isn’t the case anymore. Microsoft really meant the change when it first shared the new strategy, and now the present actions reflect its commitment to the company’s goal.

Now, by displaying logos in the trailers, Microsoft aims to ensure that players don’t have to put extra effort into knowing about the gaming platform and from where they can purchase it.

This is being done to make things convenient for players. One thing to note here is that while Xbox exclusives will be available on other platforms, not all features will function the same across different platforms, maintaining the exclusivity of Xbox.

Phil Spencer Talks About Breaking Traditional Boundaries

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, described the driving force behind this change during an interview with XboxEra, he stated that: “But I just want to be transparent with people — for shipping on Nintendo Switch, we’re gonna put that.

For shipping on PlayStation, on Steam… People should know the storefronts where they can get our games, but I want people to be able to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we have to offer on every screen we can.”

Spencer believes that more people should have access to Xbox games irrespective of their gaming platform, this will also help the Xbox community to grow. Further mentioned:

“And I know it’s not what everybody else is doing, but I just believe games should be the thing that’s at the forefront. Maybe it’s because of how I’ve grown up in this industry.

I came from building games. But I think the games are the things that I see growing in their strength in what we’re doing, and it’s because more people can play. So yeah, I’m just trying to be open and transparent with people.”

Although Microsoft is stepping towards the change, Sony and Nintendo are sticking to their traditional pattern, not displaying the Xbox logo in their games. However, Microsoft is expected to continue this new approach in the future as well.

A major Xbox event is upcoming this year, and players are eager to witness what Xbox titles will have the logos of competitor platforms.
