- Ryujin was one of the most popular Nintendo Switch emulators.
- The emulator’s creator, gdkchan, has shut down the emulator after accepting an agreement from Nintendo.
If you were an active user of Ryujinx, a popular Nintendo Switch emulator, then you’d be disappointed to know that it has been shut down.
Ryujin has been shut down
Ryujinx was one of the most popular emulators out there, as it allowed people to play Nintendo Switch games on their PC without paying a single dime. The emulator was initially run by a single developer back in 2017, but later on, a small team of developers were collectively working on it.
With their efforts, they were able to create an emulator that allowed people to access a library of over 3,200 playable games. However, while this was appreciated by its users, it was actually piracy, at least for Nintendo. So, the company has finally taken action and has asked its developer to shut it down.
This was confirmed by one of Ryujinx’s developers, riperiperi on Discord. According to him, the creator of the emulator, gdkchan, was contacted by Nintendo, who offered him an agreement to stop working on the project. They further asked him to “remove the organization and all related assets he’s in control of.” However, while they were waiting for confirmation on whether he would take the agreement, the organization was removed. This indicated that gdkchan had accepted the agreement.
Is there an alternate option?
Starting today, users will no longer be able to play Nintendo Switch games on PC using the Ryujinx emulator. Nintendo has been busy cracking down on other emulators too, so it will be difficult to find an alternate option these days.
In the same Discord announcement, riperiperi also thanked everyone for following them throughout the development and said that the project allowed him to learn a lot of new things.
In any case, if you’re interested in playing Nintendo Switch games, it will be best for you to get yourself the handheld console instead of waiting for another emulator to hit the market.
