Sinners have everyone talking, but not because of the Michael B. Jordan twin debacle. No, from the post-credits Sinners scene, which many moviegoers missed. The 2-hour horror movie directed by Ryan Coogler tells the story of two gangster brothers, Smoke and Stack.

Together, they return to their hometown of Clarksdale, Mississippi, on a business venture. Only when the music is playing and the drinks are flowing, they discover what evil awaits them. Over its opening weekend, Sinners earned over $63 million at the box office and has been highly praised by many critics.

However, many moviegoers exited the theatre before they could see the post-credits Sinners scene. Online reactions have poured in, but the question is, why?

Surprisingly, the film has a post-credits scene, and a mid-credits scene, which both seem to have been missed by people.

Primarily, the reason for missing the post-credits Sinners scene is that the credits roll when we see Sammie performing. Logically, this is a safe point to assume the film is over.

The first scene (mid-credits) shows Sammie (Miles Caton) as an older man, a famous musician playing the blues after the horrific events of the movie. After a show, Sammie is visited by Stack (Michael B. Jordan) and Mary (Hailee Steinfeld), who pay him for his time. They want him to know they survived the sunrise and know he’s alive.

Stack reveals to Sammie that Smoke couldn’t kill him, but he says his brother urged him to leave Sammie to live out his days, and then he’ll have his freedom. Now, in 1993, at his own blues bar, Sammie is offered immortality by a vampiric Stack, but refuses.

Both men reminisce on their past, and Stack confesses that the night at the juke joint was his favorite. He leaves Sammie alone.

Afterward, in the second scene (post credits), we see a young Sammie playing the blues inside his father’s church. As he plays and sings, he stops and starts to look up, and appears to come face to face with someone.

This scene has been interpreted by fans as Sammie coming face-to-face with the devil. His pastor father warns him about this at the beginning of the movie, but he goes to play blues music anyway, which we learn attracts the evil (the vampires).

Maybe Sammie made a ‘deal with the devil’ to get his fortune and fame as a blues player?

How did fans react to the scenes?

As a result of many fans not seeing the post-credit scenes, many of the memes surrounded people being clueless about their existence.

Many users missed the post-credits Sinners scene

One user wrote in a post, “All these folks in the movie and only 6 of us stayed for the SECOND post-credit scene.”

The post has over 600 reposts, so it’s safe to say the user was not the only one who left prematurely.

Similarly, another user echoed a similar point. “I didn’t know sinners had two post-credit scenes, I only saw the first,” they said.

One distraught fan wrote, “Missed the 2nd post-credit scene for Sinners”.

However, one moviegoer captured the audience stopping mid-scene to watch the first of the two scenes.

Entertainment outlet IGN even warned audiences to “stay seated” for the post-credits Sinners scene.

Not everyone missed it

Despite a huge number of people missing the scenes, many on X criticized those who left prematurely. In a post, one moviegoer wrote, “Me watching everyone clear out the theater before the Sinners post-credit scene”.

About the first scene, one user said: “The more you watch the first post-credit scene of Sinners, the more emotional it gets when they’re reflecting on all that they’ve lost and miss over the decades.”

Another user gushed over the scene and said, “Ngl the post credits scene for Sinners really did it for me. Like made the movie what I needed it to be”.

In contrast, one user remarked, “Not being a hater, but was the post-credit scene necessary…?”

That depends on who you ask.

While online users argued whether the scene was necessary, one user, BlueRayAngel, provided an interesting analysis of both scenes. You can see the video here.

Seeing the video, you can understand why the scenes must exist and how they could set up a sequel.
