  • Staff at East Side Ink were tight-lipped about the Duke of Sussex’s visit

  • Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr have all visited the same parlour in the past

Turning 40 can do curious things to a person. Some people throw caution to the wind and embrace their new decade with the full ‘life begins…’ mantra. Others panic and begin to wonder just what they have been doing with their adult years so far. Prince Harry may have committed an early part of his newfound 40’s by getting a tattoo.

The Duke of Sussex was snapped at famed celebrity tattoo parlour East Side Ink, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, only a few days after celebrating his 40th birthday in the Big Apple.

East Side has famously been patronised by an assembly of Avengers with Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans visiting the ink shop previously to receive matching tattoos.

Harry turned up to the shop in a black SUV, flanked by his security team and members of the NYPD, pictures obtained by Page Six show. Hour-long sessions at the shop cost up to $350.

The shop’s owner Josh Lord wouldn’t divulge if Harry did indeed receive some new ink, but did say that the prince stayed until just after 2pm.

Opening in 1992, East Side originally catered to bikers and body art aficionados but now has become the preferred tattoo parlour of neighbourhood punks and A-list celebrities. The shop has also provided fake body-art for major TV shows such as True Detective, for which the shop won an Emmy, and most recently HBO’s The Penguin.

Prince Harry was in NYC supporting various charities and businesses including African Parks, The HALO trust, The Diana Award and Travalyst. The trip comes as part of a solo eight-day tour of New York and the UK for the prince, who did so without his wife Meghan Markle.

Shortly after visiting East Side Ink, Harry then paid Jimmy Fallon a visit to film a skit for his late night show on NBC.
