The PlayStation 5 Pro, which is rumoured to be released sometime next year, is set to be the most powerful gaming console ever released, if a recent announcement proves to be accurate.
While nothing about the PS5 Pro’s specs have been revealed by Sony yet, an announcement by AMD could provide pointers to what gamers can expect, including enhancements to memory, ray tracing and upscaling. Of course, there is the caveat that things could change, so everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.
There will be a leap in tech from the PS5, it will be smaller than we saw when Song released the PS4 Pro version after the PS4. But, given how console performance has advanced in recent years, it is harder to produce the sorts of leaps that we saw in years gone by.
In essence, the PS5 Pro will have fast storage – building on existing technology used in the PS5 – and a larger memory.
There will also be improvements in ray tracing, with hardware producing this, rather than shaders as in previous iterations. There will be more upscaling too, something PC players have enjoyed for a while through AMD FidelityFX and NVIDIA DLSS.
All this should be enough to get gamers excited, and we await with interest official announcements from Sony about specs and release dates – although we don’t yet know when those will be. But when they do come, we’ll be onto it in a flash.
