Roblox, the globally popular online platform with over 50 million users, is taking major steps to boost child safety, making it a safer playing space for children.

Stronger Controls for Young Gamers

Following years of criticism and growing concerns about its safety measures, the company introduced new features on 18 November, designed to give parents more control and protect its youngest users from inappropriate content and interactions.

Matt Kaufman— Roblox Chief Safety Officer announced:

“We are introducing significant updates to the built-in protections for our youngest users and easy-to-use tools to give parents and caregivers more control and clarity.”

Starting now, kids under 9 can only access games with content rating marked as “Mild” and if only parents allow they can play “Moderate” ones too. More restrictions are on the way for children under 13.

They won’t be able to send private messages outside of games or to strangers, won’t see games unrated games, and parents can manage chat options with new parental tools.

Furthermore, parents can keep an eye on their friend list, monitor the screen or playtime, and even put a limit on it. Initially launched in 2006 Roblox is a hub of attraction for young players where they can create their own world.

Roblox’s Commitment to Safe Play

So, it is mandatory to have the best possible measures to protect them from any threatening exposure. According to the Parents, previously Tami Bhumik— Vice President of Civility & Partnerships at Roblox said:

“We have a responsibility to make sure our players can learn, create, and play safely, “This continues to be our most important priority and that will never change.”

These updates come after a history of controversies surrounding the gaming platform— its content filtering system is not efficient enough and children are at risk of getting exposed to inappropriate material, increasing their vulnerability.

These allegations were followed by extreme backlash and a lawsuit in 2023.
Concerns about the platform’s moderation extend beyond its developer tools. Roblox has been criticized for allowing children to play games that can be potentially harmful to their mental health.

Now with these new updates, developers aim to build up a better reputation as a child-friendly platform by reassuring parents and dealing with their concerns.
