The Nintendo Switch, a beloved gaming staple since its launch in 2017, may soon have a successor taking the stage.

Switch 2 Production Moves Forward

The newly revealed Nvidia shipment data hints that the manufacturing of Switch 2 is gearing up. According to the report published by Universo Nintendo, Nvidia shipped over 836,000 units of the T239 chipset – believed to be used to power the console – to a Nintendo-affiliated manufacturer in Vietnam in September 2024.

Alongside this, factories began producing key components like RAM modules and UFS storage. With 803,500 RAM modules and 290,000 UFS storage units dispatched and hinting at mass production, Nintendo seems determined to avoid stock shortages.

In the past, such shortage issues have ruined the launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2020 and it looks like the company is leaving no chance for history to repeat itself.

This development aligns with confirmations that came earlier this year which stated the next-generation console would be formally unveiled before the end of the 2025 fiscal year (March 31, 2025).

Since that announcement, no more details have been shared. Now fans are connecting strings and taking the shipment record as a sign that they may get to witness Switch 2 in early 2025.

What We Know About the New Nintendo Console

Another aspect to think about here is that a name for this new console hasn’t been confirmed yet. It’s simply dubbed “Switch 2” by fans. However, one confirmed feature is backward compatibility with existing Switch games, a relief for gamers and collectors alike.

Nintendo Switch Online will also be available, allowing players to have a smooth transition to the new console. With anticipation building and factories ramping up production.

Nintendo stays committed to offering exceptional gaming experiences and now as we have entered in the last month of the year, all eyes are on more upcoming updates pertinent to this successor.
