Oscars season might still be a few months away, but one actor who won’t be bothered when the nominations are announced is Samuel L Jackson, according to a recent interview.

Not bothered about nominations

The veteran actor, speaking to AP Entertainment to promote ‘The Piano Lesson’ on Netflix, in which he is appearing, said that his isn’t bothered about Oscar nominations.

“We’ve been in the business long enough to know that when folks go, ‘its just an honor to be nominated’. No it ain’t. It’s an honor to win,” he said, with a laugh. “You get nominated and folks go, ‘Yeah I remember that.’ Or most people forget.

“They nominate you and people go ‘What is that movie you’re nominated for? What’s the name of that thing?’ And after its over people have a hard time remembering who even won.”

Surprisingly, Jackson has been nominated for an Oscar just once in his long and illustrious career. His nomination, for best supporting actor, came in 1995 for ‘Pulp Fiction’, where he played hitman Jules Winnfield.

Jackson has been in plenty of notable roles, including in 1996 drama A Time to Kill, as well as playing Nick Fury in multiple Marvel films in recent years. However, they aren’t always the sort of films that get recognised by Oscars judges.

Iconic speech recreated

Jackson recently recreated his iconic speech from Pulp Fiction to mark the film’s 30th anniversary. His speech – Ezekiel 25:17 Bible verse – has become indelibly linked to Jackson’s character in the film. Jackson might be 75 now, but as he said in the video, he’s still got it.

While he may have only received one nomination (so far) Jackson was given an honorary Academy Award in 2021.

The Piano Lesson is currently streaming on Netflix.
