A day after her death, Sarah Michelle Gellar paid tribute to her co-star and friend Michelle Trachtenberg. The two first met on the set of the ABC soap opera All My Children and went on to star in the cult classic Buffy The Vampire Slayer together. Trachtenberg played Gellar’s younger sister on the show.
Reports surfaced on 26 February that Trachtenberg was “in talks” to reprise her role on Buffy, but Gellar has not commented on those rumors.

In an Instagram post, Gellar posted a tribute to her on-screen sister with old photos of the two. Previous Buffy co-stars who have paid tribute to the late actress are James Marsters, Emma Caufield, and David Boreanaz.

Gellar appeared to move away from a generic tribute, and seemed to write a quote she said to Trachtenberg in the caption. The actress wrote: “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you”.
The caption, however sad it is, pays a beautiful tribute to a friendship of over two decades. Gellar’s photo slide included photos of them on-set of Buffy, at events, and hanging out in more recent years.
The dynamic of the two captivated Buffy fans on-screen as Buffy worked to fiercely protect her younger sister from Supernatural danger. On the show, Dawn was introduced and was revealed to be a supernatural entity The Key, made to open portals to other dimensions.

Gellar reshared the photos to her Instagram Stories, documenting the ladies’ friendship over the years.

The last picture showed Gellar and Trachtenberg smiling with the late actress Shannen Doherty, who died in July 2024 of breast cancer. Gellar and Doherty were long-time friends. Doherty rose to province also in the nineties for her role in the drama Beverly Hills, 902010.
Another commenter sent condolences to Gellar for her loss. They wrote: “I’m so sorry honey.”
Meanwhile, other commentators paid their respects to both actresses.
One fan focused on Gellar’s loss, writing: “I’m so sorry for your loss Sarah.”
