Here are the shows on streaming that we’re most excited to see.
War (HBO)
War. What is it good for? Asked Edwin Starr back in the 1970s (kids ask your grandparents). Turns out its good for some very watchable legal drama.
In this show, from George Kay, creator of Lupin, the high-profile and acrimonious divorce of a tech entrepreneur (Dominic West) and his actress wife (Sienna Miller) is the focus, alongside the machinations of the rival law firms representing them. See the dirt dished from October 1.
Carrie (Prime Video)
It is now 50 years since Brian De Palma’s iconic Carrie movie, based on the novel by Stephen King, hit the cinemas. Given it is October, it is appropriate that the latest reimagining of the classic horror, comes to screens in October. This series delves deeper into the story, which is written by horror writer du jour Mike Flanagan.
Summer H Howell, who has made a reputation in various indie horror movies in recent years, plays the titular teen, who having grown up isolated from the world by her parents is suddenly thrown into public school life after the death of her father. As she struggles to fit in, telekinetic powers begin to appear. Watch the horror unfold from October 7.
The Lowdown season 2 (FX/HULU)
The Lowdown was one of the big streaming hits of 2025, and, for once, the second season follows on relatively quickly, much to the delight of its growing legion of fans.
Ethan Hawke is back as ‘thruthstorian’ Lee Raybon, who gets involved in a new investigation when he helps out a public defender to search for her client, who has mysteriously gone missing from the local penitentiary.
For added interest, Hollywood legend Tommy Lee Jones turns up as Lee’s estranged grifter father.
VisionQuest (Disney+)
The much-anticipated final instalment of the Vision trilogy finally lands on Disney+ on October 14. Paul Bettany is back as the android Vision, who has been in hiding but is forced to go on the run when a bounty is placed on his shiny head. While on the run, with a boy named Thomas Shepherd, vision learns some truths behind his programming.
The show, which also features James Spader as Ultron, is part of phase six of the MCU, so how – or if – this feeds into upcoming movies remains to be seen.
Crystal Lake (Peacock)
Continuing the Spooky Season theme comes horror prequel series Crystal Lake. Also, as seems to be the law now, horror franchises must have their own universe, and so Jason Voorhees of Friday 13th fame gets his. Or rather, his mother does.
The show, set prior to the events of the 1980 slasher flick, follows Pamela Voorhees – played by Linda Cardellini – whose son, Jason, is apparently killed in a drowning incident. As Pamela seeks to grieve her departed son at her home in the quiet town of Crystal Lake, things take a sinister turn as dead bodies start to turn up. Drops on October 15.
The Diplomat season 4 (Netflix)
The fourth season of this highly rated political drama drops in October. Keri Russell is back as Kate Wyler, the US ambassador who juggles diffusing potentially global-changing conflicts in her job with trying to keep peace in her own marriage with Hal (Rufus Sewell), who also works for the government but whose own ambitions bring him into conflict with his wife.
Alison Janney – who won an Emmy for her performance in season 3 – also returns as the President of the US, alongside Bradley Whitford, who is first man. New season drops on October 15.
