Fans were divided last week when a new clip of Shrek 5 was released.

Although they were delighted to see the likes of Shrek, Donkey, Fiona and their daughter in the teaser trailer, longtime followers of the movie couldn’t help but be confused by the change in their appearances from the 2001 original film.

And the viewers weren’t the only ones – as now it seems that Donkey himself was perturbed by the clip.

While the loveable character is voiced in the movies by Eddie Murphy, a soundalike at Universal Studios in Florida made some hilarious comments about the trailer this week.

In a TikTok video by content creators Epicfamilyquests, the family visited Donkey and Fiona at the theme park.

As the actor playing Fiona opened the stable door to reveal the animatronic Donkey, he told her, “I’ll come out, even though your husband [Shrek] refuses to come out. He’s embarrassed, he doesn’t want to get questions about the new trailer.”

He went on, “How old are your children again? ‘Cos I’ll be honest, Felicia looked 15.”

Addressing the family, Donkey continued, “Did you guys watch the new Shrek trailer? I’m just saying, I look rough. Donkey looks homeless.

“That’s why you always get final approval for all your film and movie rights.”

Fans go wild for Donkey’s words about Shrek 5

Fans in the comments section went wild for the video, which has so far racked up 65k likes and 596.5k views on the video streaming app.

“How did Universal or DreamWorks allow this… Disney would never,” joked one, while another added, “Not him being the only one to bring it up.”

Someone else agreed, “Donkey would be the one to speak up lmao love his sass.”

“When Donkey even points it out, you know it’s bad,” another went on, as someone else said, “I’M DEAD. I LOVE the Universal characters so much, they throw all the shade.”

Another joked, “Damm even Donkey be roastin’ it.”

Fans hope Donkey’s words will help to ‘fix’ Shrek 5

Some thought the teaser trailer was a clever “marketing ploy”.

“100% the trailer isn’t the final product, the whole thing was about TikTok memes so what if they made them look like that as a marketing ploy to get people talking,” guessed one.

Someone else warned that the producers should remember the backlash surrounding the new look of Sonic the Hedgehog.

“I hope with all this hate they fix it,” noted a fan. “They should take notes from Sonic.”

And others were more concerned about Donkey’s longevity in the theme park now that he has spoken his mind.

“Wonder if he got fired after this,” questioned one, as another added, “Please don’t fire him, keep going like this!”

Candace, who runs the account, replied, I’ve seen him be sassy before. I’m sure he’s fine
