Bats have a chequered history in rock. Most famously, Ozzy Osborne bit the head off a bat onstage 42 years ago, but now the bats are fighting back: one bit singer Taylor Momsen onstage at a gig in Seville, Spain.

Momsen was onstage with her band, The Pretty Reckless – who currently are on tour in Europe supporting rock legends AC/DC – performing the song Witches Burn when the bat landed on her left leg.

Can someone help me?

Initially, Momsen was unaware that the creature was there – it was only when she looked down after audience members shouted and pointed that she saw it.

But the singer – who is also known for playing Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl – remained calm, and said into her microphone that there was “a f***king flying bat on my leg right now, can someone help me please?”

Momsen’s bandmates and stage crew quickly came to her aid and managed to disengage the bat from her leg. However, her sense of humor remained intact – she quipped “I really must be a witch” as others tried to remove the bat.

Hospital trip

The gig then carried on as normal, but once finished, Momsen was taken to hospital and given a rabies shot as it transpired that the bat had bitten her. In a post on her Instagram (@taylormomsen) she said: “He was cute, but yes, he bit me… so rabies shots for the next two weeks.”

She also shared a picture of the bite marks – four red puncture wounds on her thigh.

But despite Momsen’s close encounter with the bat, the tour is continuing, but she might be wary next time Witches Burn plays.
