The world was… not quite shocked, but certainly surprised when Joe Biden dropped out of the race to be reelected as President of the United States in this year’s election.

In a statement made on July 21, the current leader, 81, announced, “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

After giving his statement, Biden endorsed his current Vice President, Kamala Harris, for the top job.

While all the drama was certainly exciting, the Internet did, of course, produce some amazing memes.

Here are the best ones that we could find from Twitter/X…

Well, we all had to hear the news somehow

Although many thought that earplugs may be necessary

Some commended Biden on his excellent way of fighting the ‘Sunday scaries’

And there were plenty of memes about him stepping down

(Including this one – the US-UK election crossover we didn’t know we needed)

Things kicked off when woman of the moment Charli XCX endorsed Harris as ‘brat’, in reference to her latest album

While Charli XCX was clearly the favored artist for the campaign, some couldn’t help but reference Chappell Roan

While others had some stellar advice for Harris’s choice of running mate

And there were just generally a lot of memes

A lot of people were concerned about the whimsical Jack Schlossberg – aka JFK’s grandson – and his new role as political correspondent at Vogue

But really, we’re all a bit Sex and the City, aren’t we?

The Swifties provided the goods, as per

And this absolute corker of a dating message
