Sony Honda Mobility has unveiled an electric car that can be driven by a PlayStation DualSense controller.
At Sony’s CES 2024 press conference, Sony Honda Mobility’s president and COO, Izumi Kawanishi, manoeuvred the latest iteration of its planned Afeela EV onto the stage using the popular console controller.
But before gamers get too excited, this demonstration was for the tech showcase only. Kawanishi added: “We believe that software can define new functions and values. We want to redefine the relationship between people and mobility.”
The Afeela is the first vehicle from Sony Honda Mobility, a venture set up by tech giant Sony and manufacturer Honda in 2022. The car is currently being developed, with its appearance at CES 2024 showing a model close to what the production version will look like. And its steering wheel does bear a resemblance to one that may be used by a gamer, although not specifically a PS5 controller.
Drivers will be able to order the Afeela from 2025, with a North American version due in 2026. For those wanting an early preview, the Afleela is set to appear in an update for Gran Turismo 7 later this year – so you can control it with a PS5 controller then.
