Spider-Man 4 is officially in the works at Marvel.

It was thought that Spidey’s solo story wrapped up at the end of trilogy capper Spider-Man: No Way Home. This remains one of the biggest grossing MCU films and one of the best rated.

However, ever since its release in 2021, there were rumors that Peter Parker might return.

These gained traction when Spider-Man star Tom Holland made comments hinting at a new film. However, he added that it would only be made if the script was up to scratch.

Later, Holland appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s talk Show, and, having recently said he’d seen a script for Spider-Man 4 that excited him, revealed that production on the movie will begin next year.

Holland is back as Spider-Man. This will be his fourth solo Spider-Man movie in the MCU. He’s also appeared in various other MCU films, starting with Captain America: Civil War. The character is rumored to be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to come out before Spider-Man 4.

Joining Holland will be Stranger Things star Sadie Sink. Her appearance was confirmed in early March 2025 but as it stands, no one knows who she’ll be playing just yet.

That hasn’t stopped people from guessing though, with most people guessing that she’ll be playing Mary Jane Watson or potentially X-Men heroine Jean Grey.

Other than that, we haven’t had details of anyone else who has been cast yet. It remains to be seen if Zendaya will return as MJ Watson or if Spidey will pursue a different love interest, possibly Gwen Stacey, who has yet to be seen in the MCU.

Back in September there were rumors that Andrew Garfield – who played Spidey in The Amazing Spider-Man films and appeared in No Way Home – would be in Spider-Man 4. However, the actor himself squashed those rumors.

Who is directing Spider-Man 4

The next Spider-Man movie will have a new director. Jon Watts was in the chair for the first three, but has said he is not involved in the latest one. However, he is excited to watch the film but just as a fan. Destin Daniel Cretton – who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in the MCU – is helming this one.

What is the plot?

What the plot of the film will be remains to be seen. Holland has said he is excited by the script, but has been careful not to elaborate further as yet.

It is thought that Spidey will be in Avengers: Doomsday – although this hasn’t been confirmed – and that events in that movie could have a bearing on the plot of Spider-Man 4.

There is also no word on who the main villain will be – although there is plenty of speculation on the internet about candidates.

When is it out?

Spider-Man 4 will swing into theaters in July 2026.
