Netflix provides audiences with two different options, allowing users to choose between watching Squid Game ubtitled in its original South Korean language or to watch a version that has been overdubbed by American voice actors.
Which is best? Well, we might have a definitive answer as the show’s creator and director has chimed in to offer his thoughts on how to get the best Squid Game viewing experience possible.
Should you watch Squid Game with subtitles?

Speaking to LadBible, the show’s director had a pretty definitive answer to the subtitle debate.
“You know, as people growing up here in Korea, we are very used to watching American or British or overseas films with subtitles. So we’re very used to that,” he told the outlet.
“But I think a lot of the English speaking countries, they’re not as used to watching other content with subtitles. For Squid Game, it’s going to be there’s the dubbed version and the sub version as well.
He continued, adding: “I suggest for those of you out there to really get the essence of the actual actors voices and the nuances of their tones, I suggest watching it with subtitles on. I think it’s going to be for a better viewing experience.”
Meanwhile, actor Lee Jung-jae, who plays Squid Game hero Seong Gi-hun, had similar thoughts when posed with the same question.
“I think I would rather the viewers to watch it with subtitles, because when you watch it with dubbed, then I don’t think it conveys the authenticity of my performance to the fullest,” Jung-jae told LadBible.
“You have to really listen to the voice of the actor, and the accent and the emotions and everything are really compiled into the voice of the actor. So yeah, I think it’s a better way to really immerse yourself into the character and into the story.”
When is Squid Game season 3 released?

While Squid Game season 2 has only just arrived, fans are already looking ahead to Squid Game season 3.
Director Dong-hyuk has already previously confirmed that the show will get a third series and that it was filmed back-to-back with Squid Game season 2. It’s one of the reasons that he recently admitted to being a little sick of all things Squid Game.
We know that Squid Game season 3 will end the show once and for all but we don’t know exactly when it will arrive. Squid Game season 3 will arrive at some point in 2025 but an exact date is yet to be confirmed.
For context, season one landed on Netflix on 17 September 2021, with Squid Game season 2 debuting on 26 December 2024. It’s unlikely we’ll have to wait a full year for Squid Game’s final season but until we know for sure, it’s anyone’s guess.
