The It prequel series that Max is developing, currently titled Welcome to Derry, has received a boost with confirmation that one of the stars of the 2017 movie it and 2019 sequel It: Chapter Two will be reprising his role in this.

Bill Skarsgård has confirmed he will return to his iconic portrayal of the terrifying Pennywise the Clown in the new series.

Rejoining old friends

He rejoins other returning cast and crew from the recent film iterations of It, including Andy Muschietti, who directed both films, producer Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, who co-produced the second film.

This confirmation also gives hints as to where the storyline of the series may go. Details of what the potential plot will focus on are scant, other than it will before the events of It. Stephen King, who wrote It, never penned an official prequel to it either.

But what we do know is that the series will be set in the 1960s – assumedly 27 years before the events depicted in It – so it could focus on events that are referred to in the original novel by King.

No release date yet

The series is scheduled to have a nine-episode run, with Muschietti set to direct four of those episodes. However, a potential release date has yet to be announced.

Skarsgård himself will next be seen as Eric Draven in the remake of the 1994 cult classic The Crow. When the first images from the film were released, including Skarsgård’s heavily tattooed Draven, it caused some controversy among fans. The film is set to be released on June 7.
