The creative team behind the beloved film Coraline are teaming up again with the aim to make another stop-motion animation film.

Together again

Writer Neil Gaiman and director Henry Selick are working together again to bring the former’s novel The Ocean at the End of the Lane to the big screen. The film is currently in development, with Selick currently looking to secure a production studio, according to Variety.

At the recent Annecy Animation Festival, Selick said that The Ocean at the End of the Lane was not a sequel to Coraline, but there are thematic similarities. “Instead of a child going to this other world with a monstrous mother, it’s a monstrous mother who comes into our world to wreak havoc on a kid’s life.”

The Ocean at the End of the Lane was written by Gaiman and published in 2013, winning numerous awards.

More adaptions coming

As well as The Ocean at the End of the Lane, there are other adaptions of Gaiman’s work currently in production. This includes a third season of the religious-themed Good Omens, which has run on Prime Video and stars David Tennent and Michael Sheen. Gaiman is currently writing the script for that, with production slated to begin in early 2025.

In addition, a second season of Netflix’s The Sandman is also in production, although no release date has been set yet.

But if you want a Gaiman fix sooner than that, you don’t have long to wait. Anansi Boys, a spinoff from American Gods, is set to be released on July 11 on Prime Video.
