Who is nominated at the Oscars 2025?
Emilia Perez leads on the night with 13 nods, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress and others.
Already a film clouded in controversy for how it depicted being transgender and Mexico, it got into extra hot water when bigoted social media posts from its star Karla Sofía Gascón resurfaced.
Emilia Pérez shouldn’t lose at the Oscars because of Karla Sofía Gascón’s past tweets. It should lose because it’s an absolutely terrible movie.

On a less scandalous note, The Brutalist, The Substance and Wicked both follow behind with 10 nods.
The Bob Dylan film A Complete Unknown, papal thriller Conclave and indie Anora are also in contention to win big.
What else is expected to happen?
The night is expected to follow on from the Grammys and honour those affected by the recent wildfires that ravaged Southern California.

Comedian and late-night legend Conan O’Brien will be hosting the night and praised the decision. His home in the Pacific Palisades stayed standing but his family has been unable to return.
“I know so many people who lost their homes, and I’m just ridiculously lucky,” O’Brien told The Associated Press. “So we want to make sure that that show reflects what’s happening and that we put a light on the right people in the right way.”

His podcast host and assistant, Sona Movsesian, lost her house in the blaze.
The ceremony’s organisers said the show will “celebrate the work that unites us as a global film community and acknowledge those who fought so bravely against the wildfires.”
