In an epic yet unexpected crossover, Timothée Chalamet and Kendrick Lamar linked up for a conversation about art ahead of the latter’s performance at the Super Bowl this weekend.

The pair appeared in a three-minute, black-and-white clip aired on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football programme this morning (February 7). They were driving around in a GNX, nodding to Lamar’s recent surprise dropped album of the same name.

Lamar asked Chalamet about his preparation process and how he manages when he’s between projects.

“The thing about acting is, if you don’t have an audience, it’s just a form of insanity. And you’re just, what are you doing?” Chalamet said. “So I definitely try to warm up and then, you know, lose that self-consciousness when you finally get back out there. But that takes time.”

He added: “I always try to embrace failure — you were talking about that the other day — the most important part of a bad day is the way you leave it. If you can leave a bad take or a bad day with a positive attitude, then you’ve got nothing to fear.”

Lamar responded: “I have to keep the pen moving. It’s my form of sanity. And it also has given me the opportunity to learn myself, you know, find out who I am.”

Lamar continued that, when it comes to songwriting, it’s necessary to “to sit and go through the emotions and be vulnerable about it.”

“A lot of these records I write, man, a lot of stuff I probably would have never expressed or even known about myself if it wasn’t for an instrumental behind it.”

Chalamet later told Lamar: “Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing like, look where you’re at now, man. It’s just crazy, Super Bowl halftime show. And you just keep climbing, bro. It’s like, amazing.”

What can we expect from Lamar’s halftime show?

Lamar’s show seems like it’ll celebrate the rapturous year he’s had, making a hit out of his feud with Drake with Not Like Us and releasing GNX out of nowhere in November.

On top of that, it follows his very successful night at the Grammys last week. Lamar was the biggest winner of the night, taking home five awards for Not Like Us.

With Lamar’s halftime show announcement coming in September, a lot of controversy followed, with the likes of Birdman and Nicki Minaj lashing out at the decision to book the LA rapper over New Orleans native Lil Wayne. Lamar reacted on ‘GNX’ track ‘wacced out murals’, rapping, “I used to bump Tha Carter 3 [Wayne’s 2008 album]/ I held my Rollie chain proud/ Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Later, Lamar raps, “Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me.”

When and Where Will the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show Take Place?

Super Bowl LIX is being held at Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday, February 9, 2025. The game itself is scheduled to kick off at 6:30pm ET/5:30pm CT/3:30pm PT, meaning an 11.30pm start for fans watching in the United Kingdom.

The halftime show will take place at, well, the halfway point of the game, after the completion of the second quarter.
