- Tom Holland leapt back onto the West End this week, as Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s adaptation of Romeo & Juliet
- The Spider-Man actor called the experience ‘a career highlight’
- Fans took to Twitter/X to show their appreciation of Holland’s performance

While it was frustratingly postponed by three days, Tom Holland’s debut in the new West End adaptation of Romeo & Juliet was met with triumph on opening night (May 13).
The Spider-Man actor, 27, took to the stage as the titular character, opposite his co-star Francesca Amewudah-Rivers – and hailed the experience as “ a highlight of my career”.
“Tonight was the start of something so special,” Holland told his 65.7 million Instagram followers. “I’m beyond proud of our cast and crew who have gone above and beyond in every way. I can’t wait for the rest of the run. Tonight was truly a highlight of my career and I’m so glad I get to share it with these incredible people. Love you all and see you tomorrow!”
The play, directed by Jamie Lloyd, is yet to receive reviews from theater critics – but fans are delighted with Holland and the rest of the cast’s stellar performance.
In fact, followers of the actor were keen to show their appreciation after the show – and crowded the front of London’s Duke of York’s Theatre.
In some clips, Holland can be seen beaming and clapping on stage as the audience gave him a standing ovation for his performance as the ill-fated lover.
Other clips show the star – who has been dating Dune actor Zendaya since 2021 – waving and blowing kisses to a crowd of fans waiting outside the doors of the theater to catch a glimpse of him.
“‘It’s just a play nobody would go see Tom Holland do a play,’” one Twitter/X user mocked of naysayers who thought the show wouldn’t be a success, as they posted a picture of Holland getting into a car while surrounded by people all hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
In other clips, Holland can be seen waving on the balcony of the theater.
“Literally my favourite person ever!!!!! He looks so happy <3 Tom Holland u are so loved,” a follower captioned the video.
