Tom Holland has been voted as the best live-action Spider-Man, ahead of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in a poll.

Close vote

In the poll on Pubity’s broadcast channel, followers were asked to vote for their favorite live action Spidey from the 21st century. Holland, who has played the webslinger since 2016, came out on top, garnering 41% of the vote. Tobey Maguire, who held the role from 2002-07, came in a close second with 35%. Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man from 2012-14, trailed in third with 24%.

Holland has played Spider-Man in six films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in Captain America: Civil War in 2016, before going on to star in three standalone films. The most recent, Spider-Man: No Way Home united the three versions of Spidey as Maguire and Garfield’s versions were brought into Holland’s universe – and they teamed up to save Earth.

In terms of global box office performance, Holland’s Spider-Man leads the way, grossing more than $3.9 billion over its three films, according to figures from Statista. Maguire’s version – again over three films – took more than $2.5 billion, while Garfield only had two outings in the famous red and blue suit so is in third place with takings of more than $1.4 billion.

More to come?

Whether Holland will reprise his role as Spidey in the future remains to be seen. Back in April, Holland said that he would always want to play Spider-Man, but there would only be a Spider-Man 4 if the story was right and it didn’t retread old themes. However, Holland is involved with the creative team working on potential stories.
