- Donald Trump’s tariffs continue to cause chaos
- The Daily Show host Jon Stewart has compared them to Squid Game
- The fallout from the tariffs has yet to be seen

As the chaos continues surrounding the Trump tariffs, one comic has compared it to something akin to Squid Game.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump’s recently revealed tariffs on multiple countries across the world. Some of these came into effect on 5 April. They impacted countries like the United Kingdom, Brazil, New Zealand and the Turkey.

Their rate is set at 10%. They’ll have a costly knock on to companies that wish to bring foreign goods into America.
Meanwhile, a second wave of Trump tariffs are scheduled to come into effect from 9 April. These will touch places like China, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan, with each hit with different tariff costs.

Their impact is already being felt, with the world economy plunging into chaos. Just a day before Trump’s second round of tariffs come into effect, the US President finds himself in a stand off with China which has threatened its own retaliation tariffs on America.
As a result, Trump has refused to back down, threatening the country with even higher rates if they proceed with their plan.
This ongoing process has been picked apart by many, with one comedian comparing Trump’s plan to the tag line of Netflix’s dystopian hit.
Jon Stewart compares Trump tariffs to Squid Game
Returning to The Daily Show earlier this week, comedian and host Jon Stewart wasted no time delving into this issue that continues to be played out on the world stage.
The host took aim at Trump’s response to the widespread panic caused by his tariffs. In particular, Stewart pointed to posts issued by the President on his social media platform Truth Social.
First, he poked fun at the president’s urge for people not to become a “Panican” – a term devised to describe, as Trump puts it, “Weak and Stupid people.” Then, he turned his attention another Trump post, one that simply read “ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL!”
“What are you doing,” deadpanned Stewart to a giggling crowd. “Your economic policy has the same tag line as season three of Squid Game?
“That’s supposed to make us feel better?”

When is Squid Game season 3 released?

From a dystopian reality to dystopian fiction, fans don’t have too long to wait before they can revisit the actual Squid Game.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s hugely popular thriller series will return to Netflix on 27 June 2025. It’s set to round round out the story of Gi-hun (Lee jung-jae), the winner of season one’s challenges who returned to the game in season 2 with an eye on changing things from the inside.
However, things didn’t quite go to play. When we last saw Gi-hun, he had been captured by Squid Game boss The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and his fate remained up in the air.
