The 2025 Oscars are on the way, with cinema’s biggest and brightest stars once again set to turn out for Hollywood’s biggest night.
Details for the 97th Academy Awards ceremony have started to make their way online and the movies likely to win next year’s big awards have started hitting cinemas. In turn, online chatter has turned to the night itself and which projects are most likely to take home Oscar statues.

This year’s show will be hosted by comedian and former Late Night host Conan O’Brien. O’Brien takes over from 2024 host Jimmy Kimmel who marked his fourth time fronting the awards show having previously hosted in 2017, 2018 and 2023.

When are the 2025 Oscars?
The 2025 Oscars will take place on Sunday 2 March 2024 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood California. This will mark the ceremony’s 24th consecutive year in this particular space.
The ceremony itself will start at 4 p.m. PT and 7 p.m ET. This new earlier schedule came into force for the 2024 awards. Prior to this, the Oscars typically started at 5pm PT and 7pm ET. This time scale was often pushed even later when the event overran thanks to its lengthy speeches.
The 2025 Oscars will take place a week earlier than the 2024 Oscars, which happened on 10 March 2024. Historically, each ceremony takes place in late February or early March.
These Academy Award dates only usually change when other big events happen at the same time. For example, the Winter Olympics and the Superbowl have previously caused the Oscars to shift dates.
Also, the chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Academy Awards to move to April in 2021.
How to watch the 2025 Oscars
The 2025 Oscars will air live on ABC in March next year.
Viewers will also be able to watch the ceremony live on ABC.com the ABC app although users will have to verify that they have a valid cable or satellite provider first.
Those who have streaming services such as Hulu Live TV, YouTubeTV, FuboTV or AT&T TV will also be able to access the event live.
The first Oscars ceremony aired in 1953 on NBC. The event stayed on this network until 1960 when ABC took on broadcasting duty. Between 1971 and 1975, NBC took the show back once more before ABC took the reigns once more.
ABC has carried the show ever since. The channel has a contract that will see it host the Oscars until at least 2028.
