The franchise has been going almost 30 years, given the original Mission Impossible came out in 1996. This makes it one of the longest running  film franchises of all time. The Final Reckoning will be its eighth film following 2023’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

As well as being the 17th most successful film franchise of all time, it’s kept bringing the money in even during recent years. The highest grossing film in the franchise is Fallout, which only came out in 2018.

While Tom Cruise was bound to make a return – and of course, he’s doing his own stunts – there’ll be plenty of familiar faces returning for the next film. There’s even some interesting new additions too.

Who’s in the cast?

Hannah Waddingham

Cruise will be back to play Ethan Hunt, but appearing alongside him are Hayley Atwell as Grace, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, and Simon Pegg also returns as Benji Dunn. Pom Klementieff also returns as Paris.

Vanessa Kirby returns as Alanna Mitsopolis aka The White Widow and Esai Morales reprises his role as the ruthless villain, Gabriel.

Henry Czerny returned to the franchise after 27 years in The Dead Reckoning, reprising his role as Eugene Kittridge. He’ll be back for the next film too.

There’s an array of newcomers to, most significantly Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham. Katy’O Brian, Janet McTeer, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Tramell Tillman and Stephen Oyoung have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Another interesting addition is Rolf Saxon, who reprises his role as William Donloe from the very first Mission: Impossible film. We last saw him being transferred to Alaska as punishment.

When is Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning released?

The film arrives in theaters on May 23, 2025.

Is there a trailer?

The first trailer dropped at the end of last year, in which Ethan Hunt says “I need you to trust me, one last time”.

Another 30-second teaser containing the same line aired during the Super Bowl commercials, depicting Cruise hanging onto a 1930s style biplane.
